Widely regarded as one of the greatest masterpieces of Korean literati painting, this ink wash painting was made in 1844 by Kim Jeong-hui when he was banished to Jeju-do. In the painting, the artist compared the pine trees, which remain green even during the harsh mid-winter season, with Yi Sang-jeok (1804-1865), a government interpreter and his pupil who remained loyal to him even during hard times.
