National Palace Museum of Korea
Seoul, South Korea

These rolling pins are decorated in flower and bird designs using Hwagak(ox horn) technique. Ox horn was sliced as thin and translucent as possible and the reverse side of the ox horn was painted in splendid colors. The prepared ox horn was then attached on the surface of wood. This kind of rolling pin was a cylinder-shaped auxiliary tool that was used during quilting process by keeping lining and outer fabric together and holding both layers flat.
