Finely ground ox horn sheets were attached on to this pine tree box, and had patterns such as a dragon, phoenix and crane depicted on them. Popular subject matters of folk painting are rendered in the style of folk painting as well, and the black edges of the lid are a reference to a past style. The redness of ox horn and the painterly patterns adds to the decorativeness of this box.
