This food model is a reproduction of the makunouchi (‘between the scenes’) theater lunch box sold by the restaurant Mankyū, based on a record found in the 1852 publication Sketches by Morisada. Inside the box there are grilled rice balls, thick tofu, konyaku (konjac), sato-imo (taro), kanpyō (dried shavings of gourd), tamago-yaki (rolled fried-eggs) and kamaboko (steamed fish paste).
