見込み中央の平面に主文様の牡丹文を上面、側面、裏面からと描きわけた、珍しい文様表現の大型盤です。牡丹の花や葉には陰刻で脈が表され、そこにたまったコバルト顔料が文様に陰影を与えています。周縁部に宝相華唐草や蔓唐草が同心円状に配されるのは、元青花の輸出先であったイスラム圏の金属器の意匠の影響と考えられます。
