Seamstresses of the Bogd Khaan’s Palace
A Khult Magnag Deel that features patterns with pearl and coral beading, a brown “puushuu” silk outer lining, and a light border. Of all the artisans of the Sangai Palace, otherwise known as those who made the Bogd Khaan’s clothing goods and idols, 100 of them were seamstresses. One such priceless item made by the seamstresses of Sangai Palace is currently kept at the National Museum of Mongolia. The item is a magnag deel with dragon patterns and intricate pearl and coral beading.
The dragon pattern evident on the deel’s lapel, back and front is rendered with small and large pearl beading and color coordinated. It also features mountain, fire, and water patterns along with Ulzii, Khas, and floral patterns whose colors are comple¬mentary and are open stitched with silk tread.
