In 1974 The Deluge was the first opening film in the history of the festival, winning the Grand Award 'Lwy Gdańskie' (now the Golden Lion). Daniel Olbrychski was awarded the Best Actor in a Leading Role for his unforgettable performance as Andrzej Kmicic.
