Chris Antemann is a contemporary American sculptor who works with the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory. Forbidden Fruit, a large multi-part installation, is a modern interpretation of a banquet in a Rococo interior, a table laid for dining surrounded by the figures of guests, all set in a pavilion.
It is complemented by a porcelain chandelier, pyramids of fruits in openwork baskets, surrounded by sculptural semi-erotic scenes. Each and every element is a unique and original work. Even while employing Meissen’s traditional ornamental and sculptural motifs, the installation remains markedly individual.
The exhibition will also include examples of Western European works on paper and porcelain made at Meissen in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries from the collection of the State Hermitage Museum, illustrating the sources and traditions of the scène galante in porcelain, bringing the number of objects in the show to around 70.
Organised by the State Hermitage Museum in collaboration with the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory.
