At the core of the project is The Return of the Prodigal Son by Rembrandt. Inspired by this painting, the film director Alexander Sokurov created a large-scale installation recounting the biblical story of the prodigal son from all kinds of – often unexpected – perspectives. When stepping inside, visitors encounter sculptural representations of the Father and the Son that seem to have descended from Rembrandt’s canvas. The onlookers are then transferred to the studio of the prominent Dutch artist and get a chance to watch Alexander Sokurov’s videos. By revisiting the well-known narrative, the director builds a special space enabling everyone to discover something new in this story.
