The year 2021 celebrates 550 years since the birth of Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528), one of the most prominent Renaissance masters.

Organised to mark this occasion, the Hermitage exhibition provides visitors with an insight into the fine collection of Dürer’s prints and drawings from the holdings of the State Hermitage Museum and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. Around three hundred exhibits are to go on display, among them all of the artist’s major prints, The Apocalypse, The Passion and The Life of the Virgin series as well as monumental prints The Arch of Honour and The Triumphal Procession produced for Emperor Maximilian. Visitors can also see Dürer’s own drawings, including sketches of church stained glass, studies for an altarpiece, sketches for prints and portraits. Dürer’s oeuvre had as great appeal for contemporaries as for later generations. For many centuries a variety of borrowings, reinterpretations, copies and fakes could be found both in drawing and applied art. The exhibition also features stained glass, wood reliefs, cameos and medals.
