Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Moridja Kitenge Banza migrated to Canada in the mid-2000s and settled in Montreal, Quebec. In his multidisciplinary art practice, Banza draws on his complex feelings around identity and migration as a member of the African diaspora, incorporating his own memories as well documented histories to illuminate the brutal legacies of colonization.
This installation, which includes 13 paintings from Banza’s Christ Pantocrator series and 3 stained-glass works, offers moments to reflect upon biography, colonial histories, artmaking, and the creation of new narratives. It marks the culmination of this series in the artist’s oeuvre.
