Anglada Camarasa Archive
Feb 2, 2023 - May 7, 2023
The genesis of this exhibition comes from the generous donation of the archive of the artist Hermen Anglada Camarasa (Barcelona, 1871- Pollença, 1959) to the Museu Nacional, made by Beatriz Anglada and Sílvia Pizarro, daughter and granddaughter of the painter, respectively. This donation coincides with the 150th anniversary of the artist's birth and, as an activity, is part of the celebrations of the Anglada Camarasa Year.

Following a process of digitalisation of the archive collection by the Museum's Research and Knowledge Centre, and given the importance of this collection, it has been decided to exhibit it in the permanent rooms. This exhibition aims to show the most outstanding elements of the archive such as photographs, notebooks and various documents from different periods contextualised with the work of the artist. It will also highlight the importance of Anglada Camarasa during the years before and after the First World War, during which he was the most international Catalan artist since Marià Fortuny.

It is, therefore, an exhibition of a hybrid, documentary and artistic nature. Among other elements, special emphasis will be on the unique collection of photographs taken, often in series, by the artist, at the beginning of the 20th century and which are an indisputable part of his creative process.
