On display are the results of the International Ideas Competition for the realisation of a multifunctional building and a green system in the MAXXI area. Set up inside the museum’s foyer, with a privileged vantage point over the square–which today is made of concrete and will be transformed into a microclimatic island– the first five classified projects are exhibited through models and in-depth videos narrated by the designers themselves.
GRANDE MAXXI will be shown to the public through a device that can be used both from inside and outside the museum: starting with the exhibition, it will become a permanent showcase of information, updated on the evolution of the interventions in the various phases, from design to final realisation. The models and projects will become part of the Museum’s Collection.
As part of the GRANDE MAXXI masterplan, an ambitious project for the expansion and revamp of the museum, an ideas competition has been launched to select the best proposal according to the criteria of sustainability, inclusion and innovation. The call, launched on 9 February 2022, gathered 103 proposals from multidisciplinary design teams. The call for proposals included: a multifunctional building (MAXXI HUB) to house new smart and visitable storage for works from the museum’s collection; a centre for the restoration of contemporary art; a research and training centre; and a green system (MAXXI GREEN) along Via Masaccio, housing site-specific artworks, vegetable patches and experimental workshops.
