The "Bairro Aeroporto" is located in Maputo, Mozambique. Because of its location, next to one of the main airports in the country, the neighborhood is busy and multicultural. A symbol of transversality in which various voices and artistic references emerge, such as Malangatana, Shikhani, João Timane, among other names.

Malangatana is a main reference in the Mozambican artistic context. He was born in 1963, in the city of Matalane, in Mozambique. Artist and poet, Malangatana is internationally known for working in a variety of media (drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, murals, poetry and music). He studied engraving and ceramics at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Portugal. He died in 2011, in Matosinhos, Portugal.

Arsenio Artmoz
One of the most promising artists from the new generation of the Airport Neighborhood, Arsenio Magagule, better known as Arsenio Artmoz, is a young Mozambican artist. Arsenio Artmoz studied at the Instituto Superior de Comunicação e Imagem de Moçambique. His work is deeply linked to his personal experience in Maputo, where he lives, especially with the streets of the airport district.

Shikhani is one of the great names in Mozambican art.
Arsenio Artmoz was born in 1934, in the Marracuene district. Initially, he dedicated himself to sculpture, but later, in the 1970s, he would also explore painting.
His first exhibition was in 1968, in Matalane. In 1973, he received a grant from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, in Portugal.

Born in 1990, João Timane is, nowadays, one of the most well known artists in the Airport Neighborhood, and even in Africa. In 2000, he won the first biennial TDM design award.
