The Opera House Unter den Linden is undergoing, since 2010, a general renovation. In the meantime, Artistic Director Jürgen Flimm and General Musical Director Daniel Barenboim have been offering a first class Opera and Concert program in Charlottenburg's Schiller Theater. They are supported by an outstanding company of soloists, the Staatsopernchor and the Staatskapelle Berlin, who consistently prove the leading position they possess in not only the German but also international orchestra scene.
»Max is an incipient heldentenor role, and Burkhard Fritz, heading an outstanding cast, brings both vocal weight and lyrical grace to the music. In Agatha’s own big aria, “Leise, leise” the soprano Dorothea Röschmann was superb, particularly in the final vivace section, sung with uninhibited passion yet also flawless accuracy. In the soubrette role of Ännchen, the soprano Anna Prohaska sang with exquisite delicacy.« (The New York Times)
»This new production of Wagner´s opera, conducted by Daniel Barenboim, was commanding and radical. There was superb singing from Andreas Schager (Parsifal), Matthias Hölle (Titurel) and Wolfgang Koch (Amfortas) – plus a huge embrace from Tcherniakov for Anja Kampe, whose beautifully nuanced performance of Kundry was the centrepiece of his production. Thrilling!« (The Telegraph)
