Galas and encores

The Teatro Real has hosted various galas, dedicated to the great figures that have walked its stage, creating memorable moments, like Teresa Berganza singing 'Happy Birthday' to Plácido Domingo. Equally historic have been its encores, both Leo Nucci's encore in 'Rigoletto' in 2009 (the Teatro Real's first encore in recent historiy), and Javier Camarena's double encore in 2014, with 'La fille du régiment'.

Rigoletto (2009) by Javier del RealTeatro Real

On 22 June 2009, Leo Nucci made history at the Teatro Real by being the first artist to give an encore performance since the reopening in 1997. The Madrid audience cheered the Italian baritone until he repeated the famous duet "Sì, vendetta, tremenda vendetta" from Rigoletto.

9 dos de pecho has the aria Ah! mes amis, quel jour de fête! from La hija del regimiento
but Javier Camarena sang 18... two days in a row! The Mexican tenor thus became the first singer to encore twice in a row at the Real.
