Frevo & Paço

Paço do Frevo

A manifestation that aggregates, collectivizes and transgresses. It narrates, denounces, identifies and provokes. A whirlwind of senses, colors, images and emotions. A state of mind. It’s Frevo!

Frevo is more than dance and music. It’s artistic expressions, knowledge, crafts and celebrations that cross time and space.

Frevo is a cultural manifestation that tells the history of the people of Pernambuco in its diversity. It was elected UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Brazil and Humanity in 2012.

The Paço
Opened to the public since February 2014, the Paço do Frevo is located in the Arsenal da Marinha Square, in the historical center of Recife. It is a center of reference of Frevo culture, dedicated to the preservation of Pernambuco customs and the encouragement of new experiences.

Paço do Frevo, in partnership with several communities, groups and individuals, carries out, through collaborative processes, actions that allow the diffusion of the memory, the development of the creative chain and the encouragement of new experiences and transformations, thus revealing new places, thoughts, speeches and images of frevo.

Paço do Frevo is a living and democratic place with a program inspired by the energy and vitality of frevo. It has a recording studio, music and dance rehearsal rooms, research space, web radio, multipurpose space for presentations, and develops workshops through its educational program. Come and feel the energy of Paço do Frevo!
