The headscarf is an exquisite example of Arabic and Chinese influence in the late 19th Century. The Arabic letters were taken from words of the Qur'an. The lion-like shape is a depiction of Chinese influence. This piece of headscarf was made in Cirebon, a coastal city and important harbour. The city is also home to one of the most influential sultanate in Java.
