Aram Han incorporated the patterns of yongpo(royal ceremonial robe) into modern design. Ayongpois decorated with a variety of symbolic patterns in exquisite techniques. The patterns ofyongpoare symbolic of the order of the universe. Water and mountains at the bottom represent the earth, and the dragon surrounded by the clouds signifies the authority. Han embroidered the outline of the dragon with gold thread on the front of the black jumpsuit using couching stitch, and filled some part of the patterns with colors. The ends of the jumpsuit were decorated with modified images of Chinese characters, which are the same patterns we find at the bottom ofyongpo. Wave patterns were embroidered with seed, satin, and golden thread couching stitches. Han used all embroidery techniquesyongpoused, but rearranged the design by skipping some of them.
