A knot garden designed by Marjorie, Marchioness of Salisbury featuring plants from the 17th century. The knot was part of the Tradescant Garden designed by John Drake, Mary Searls and Lady Salisbury at the Garden Museum in London. Created using period plants as a tribute to the two John Tradescants, buried in the graveyard at the museum, it featured plants known to or introduced into Britain by them in the 17th century. The 'T' design of the santolina reflects their name and was surrounded by a circle of box hedging representing a globe, a nod to their plant hunting journeys that took them to Russia, North Africa, Europe and America. The garden was opened by HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in 1983.
