Bobby Jones was the first golfer to win both the British and US Open titles (1926). In 1930, he won the "Grand Slam of Golf" - the US Open, the British Open, the US Amateur, and the British Amateur. He retired soon afterward, and is considered the greatest amateur who ever played the game.
Two commemorative stamps, one honoring Bobby Jones and the other honoring Babe Zaharias, were issued at the World Golf Hall of Fame in North Carolina, in 1981. The stamps were designed by Richard Gangel of Weston, Connecticut and modeled by Clarence Holbert.
