Refugees after the 1947 Partition of Indian subcontinent. This image shows an improvised manual ambulance system carrying a dead body. When the refugees passed away they were carried to a certain area and buried there.
Here the deceased is wrapped in bedding and laid on an inverted charpoy which is suspended from logs. Four men are carrying these logs on their shoulders.
This image is from the collection of F.E. Chaudhry, the only known local photographer who captured the events at the time.
