Front and left hand side view. The Chevrolet Stylemaster demonstrates how the post-war demand for motor cars was so high that many car manufacturers began to make their pre-war models. Chevrolet opted to produce earlier models because they were quick to manufacture and they wanted to take advantage of the market demand. The Stylemaster was basically an updated version of the 1942 Chevrolet Master Deluxe, the only difference that would distinguish it from its predecessor was a different grille. The 1948 Stylemaster’s radiator grille featured a vertical centre bar.
The Stylemaster was manufactured in Australia by General Motors-Holden. The Australian model was built from imported parts, but the body was produced at the Holden Woodville plant in South Australia. The body shape was different to the US model, with rear-hinged back doors and a larger trunk. In 1948 almost 172,000 Stylemaster models were produced.
