This is a Colt Model 1860 Army revolver, caliber .44 rifled bore, produced ca. 1860–1873. A lighter, more manageable successor to the Dragoon series, the Model 1860 became the standard sidearm for many Union cavalrymen during the American Civil War thanks to its reliability and improved handling. Its percussion-cap, six-shot cylinder and balance of power and portability made it a defining military and frontier sidearm of the mid-19th century.
