Themes of infants and flying birds appeared in Fang Lijun's works since 2000. This is an important and representative work of that period. In a bright and colorful picture, a baby is flying high on a crane. Everything seems surrounded by peaceful happiness. While in this ambiguous space constructed by the artist, happiness of the protagonist seems so detached that it is simply hard to be accommodated in the picture. Inspite of this detachment, the happiness is not to be negated. The work is full of allegory. The narrative style of the picture shows the artist's dispassion and rationality. He keeps exploring the existential status of an individual in the reality of a world of dreamlike colors.
