All Strikers in Solidarity. Other production facilities joined the strike. It was decided to call a solidarity strike – the strikers would jointly negotiate the conditions for the termination of the protest with the communist government. Together they drew up the 21 Demands, which included wage increases, but also demands for the registration of an independent trade union, the abolition of censorship, and the release of political prisoners. The government decided to negotiate, and on August 31, 1980, it signed the “August Agreement” with the strikers.
