As Thomaskantor, Wilhelm Rust worked hard to maintain the works of Bach and his other predecessors. Shortly after taking office, he compiled a collection of works by Thomaskantors Georg Rhau, Seth Calvisius, Johann Hermann Schein, Johann Kuhnau and Johann Adam Hiller.
