32c Republic of Palau stamp

The Postal Service issued a 32-cent Republic of Palau commemorative stamp on September 29, 1995 in Agana, Guam. The stamp was designed by Herb Kane of Captain Cook, Hawaii.

Also known as Belau, Palau is a group of 200 islands in the Western Pacific with a total land area of 188 square miles spread over 400 miles of ocean. Its neighbors include the Philippines to the west, Yap Island in the Federated States of Micronesia to the northeast, and the Irian Jaya province of Indonesia to the south. In 1947, Palau became a part of the United Nations Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, under United States administration. The islands remained a Trust Territory until gaining independence on October 1, 1994, thus becoming the Republic of Palau.

The stamp went on sale nationwide on September 30. Ashton-Potter (USA) Ltd. manufactured the stamp in the offset process.
