Mrs. Ellen McDermidd, a packer at the Westclox Factory, listens for the ticking before placing two clocks on to the racks. VALE OF LEVEN INDUSTRIAL ESTATE. Thousands of people have found employment through the development of Scottish Industrial Estates. In the Vale of Leven, Dumfriesshire is one of the 18 estates established in Scotland and financed by the Board of Trade which has been responsible for providing 60,000 more jobs in factories since the end of the war. All the estates offer modern factory space at cheap rentals with canteen facilities, lighting, transport and recreation and with the development of industrial sites and ex Government factories have a potential employment of 112,700.
