Film still for the Hindi film 'Dahej' (translation: Dowry), released in the year 1950.
The still shows a frame from the song ' Wo To Baas Bareli Se Aaya' (translation- He comes from Baas Bareli), sung by Jayashree. The song features lead character Chanda (Jayashree) and her friends singing and dancing to a song about marriage and an imaginary groom. in the frame, Chanda is standing in the centre of the frame with one hand stretched out and the other holding a small percussion drum on her waist. There are four dancers holding the same pose and standing in a queue to the left of the frame in
the background. There are two dancers in the farther background, both holding small percussion instruments. To the right of the frame, five dancers are arranged in an ascending order, all holding a flute or 'shehnai' like instrument high up in their mouths with both their hands. To the extreme right is another
female character, who is sitting down, holding a small percussion instrument and is looking up at Chanda. In the foreground, there are toy human figures dressed as the relatives of the groom, representing the groom's family's wedding procession ('Baarat'). There is a decorated elephant on top which the groom is seated. Ahead of the elephant is a palanquin held up by two bearers.
