The huge ovoid egg was recovered from superficial deposit in South Madagascar and belongs to Aepyornis sp., which was the largest genus of this ostrich-like group. It grew to an estimated length of 3 m and weight of 500 kg. When human arrived in Madagascar about 1500 years ago, this bird had become extinct.
