The Day of the Opening of the First Polish Sejm – Landau with the Head of State Józef Piłsudski and Prime Minister Ignacy Jan Paderewski Surrounded by an Honorary Squadron on Castle Square in Warsaw, 9th of February 1919

Great artists of the day offered and dedicated their works to Paderewski. In 1930, artists associated with the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts [Zachęta] presented Paderewski with a collection of their drawings and prints.
One of the works in the Zachęta Portfolio, which directly references the recipient, is a watercolour by Feliks Szewczyk showing a carriage transporting the Head of State Józef Piłsudski, and Prime Minister Ignacy Jan Paderewski surrounded by an honorary squadron of the First Chevau-Légers Regiment at Castle Square. The men are en-route to a special service at the cathedral in Warsaw, on the eve of the inaugural session of the Sejm in the newly-restored Poland.
