This painting has traditionally been attributed to Gustav Grunewald. However, the Seminary Chapel, included in this view, was not completed until 1868, the year following Grunewald's final return to Germany. In the opinion of Peter Blume, author of "Gustav Grunewald 1805-1878," this painting should be reassigned, perhaps to Reuben O. Luckenbach, Grunewald's student who succeeded him as drawing master at The Moravian Seminary for Young Ladies. Blume further states "the soft, lush foreground and the feathered trees are unlike other work by the artist [Grunewald]."
