1 idea. 3 walls. 4 choreographers. 7 designers. 8 weeks. 21 technicians. 46 artists. 64 musicians. 100 costumes. 123 colleagues of NDT. 230 lamps.
1 company. 60 years.
A collection of numbers that make room for imagination and spirit.
The idea for this evening began with the discovery of a book dating from 1734, residing at the Royal Library in The Hague, by Albertus Seba. Within the four volumes of his ‘Cabinet of Natural Curiosities’ Seba forged Science and Art together. He united these seemingly opposing forces which consequently stimulated a monumental movement of collecting natural objects to be assembled and displayed creatively.
We felt it to be the ideal metaphor around the creation of this performance gathering the myriad of elements to Nederlands Dans Theater: Memories and Legacy; Thoughts and Presence; Fantasy and Future, all colliding within this stage. A culmination of our own natural curiosities brought together in this significant moment. Kunstkamer celebrates all the exceptional individuals working as one bound by a desire for creativity and quality for six decades.
