Known for his impeccable handling of the oil medium, his paintings are characterized by a disquieting air and unease. ‘Doll’ is suggestive of surreptitious activities, as a lifeless object comes into its own and suspiciously creeps into a half chest of drawers. Painted at the height of political turmoil in west Bengal, the painting is an interesting blend of menace and innocence.
