The picture is one of the first large-format works of Mednyánszky, where he presents figural composition. He uses the theme of convict, a man who has to cope with his fate, and this theme is one of the fascinating issues of his work. True moments of anxiety and complicated life situations fascinated the artist his whole life. This theme was already present in his works during his academic studies.
