During the Second World War and in the post-war period, artists were not allowed to depict Stalin’s repressions and the atmosphere of terror prevalent at the time. Thus there are very fiew visual representations left of these traumatic experiences. Olga Terri’s small oil paintings are a marked exception. These scenes in shades of grey and brown clearly capture the mood of terror and anxiety of those days, when people lived in constant fear of informers and arrest.
