Leonardo da Vinci's many interests explain why his autograph paintings were so few in the end.

In fact, many of the "lost originals" which explain the genesis of so many of Leonardo's works were drawings and not paintings. This is the case with this exquisite board, a star item in Lázaro's collection, probably made in the last decade of the Quattrocento by Boltraffio, Leonardo's most gifted disciple from Milan, based on an original design of his master and directly supervised by him.
