Unlike Lang's catalogue of abbots, the portraits of the saints are not drawn by hand, but printed from woodblocks which were inked and pressed directly onto the parchment. In this manner, it was possible to produce a great number of illustrations in a short time.
In total, 33 different woodblocks were used, which depict popes, cardinals, bishops, abbots and abbesses, monks and nuns as well as secular officials. The woodcuts have been individually coloured by Michelsberg painters.
