SHEEPSKIN RUG INDUSTRY 150 YEARS IN ONE FAMILY
For 150 years the Anscomb family down in the Old Kent Road have been in the sheepskin rug industry, an old industry which has now nearly died out. The skins are all English and are obtained from all parts of the country in the raw state. A large number are treated and made into rugs for export to India where there is a good demand for them. Not all are made into
rugs for there is a good business done in treated skins.
Photo shows - Scraping the skins at the Anscomb works, one of the first stages of treatment.
