My beloved Wife and my little Alois, I welcome and greet you: praise be Jesus Christ. I'm writing to you, my beloved Wife, because it's a beautiful and solemn Sunday, because it's the first Sunday of the month, dedicated to Jesus' heart and the celebration of Our Lady of the Rosary.
And I am lying in this Russian field in a hole, and writing this letter with a great fear for you cause the bullets are whistling above my head. And I'm writing to you, my beloved Wife, don't be upset with my infrequent writing, cause I must march 20 kilometers every day and those bullets whistle behind me, so I have no will to do anything. The only thing I'm glad about is that we are marching nearer to my home.
And now tell me what's happening with you and how you're doing at home. And I write to you, my beloved Wife, that you not force yourself too much, do only what's necessary to survive with this child, cause I don't desire any riches, I only pray to God that I may happily return to you, and my brother, too. And I write to you, my beloved Wife, to ask Our Lady of the Rosary to save us from everything bad.
