It all starts in the house - one inhabited by fantasy figures reminiscent of toy animals and dolls, with nicknames like "Monkey", "Grizzly", and "Bird". "Self", "Girl", and "Boy" live there too.
Mats Ek has dedicated the ballet 'Gamla Barn' (Old Children) to his mother, Brigit Cullberg. With no trace of pathos, he recalls childhood memories. The result is a collection of ingenious scenes, that weave together the child's imaginative games in the adult world. Ek does not shrink from portraying the dark sides of human nature.
