  • Details: Walk&Talk is a public art festival that takes place in the island of São Miguel, Azores. It counts with artists from all over the world to create a route of site-specific instalations, with goal of creating relations with space, culture and local communities. A trully outdoor museum. LATA 65 - Urban Art Workshop for Seniors was invited by Walk&Talk to be present at the 4th edition of the festival for a workshop, between 21th and 22th of July, with the old local community. The result was a big magic wall made by a group of 15 happy old people. We changed a bit the format for this festival, doing all 4 modules in just 2 days. day 01 _ module 01 + module 02 + module 03 01 _ HISTORICAL CONTEXT of the advent of Graffiti (70s, U.S.A) and its evolution/ derivation to Urban Art, which today is one of the major artistic movements of the 21st century. Listing of the characteristics (plastic, physical, materials, geographic and/or social) of the Graffiti and Urban Art; common aspects and differences between them. Presentation of the specific terminologies of each artistic expression. The entire module is permanently accompanied with the viewing of photographs /images (projection/publications) of particularly national urban artistic interventions. Some pieces (of small dimension) of urban artists will also be presented. In this first module, it is intended to stimulate dialogue, discussion and relaxation of the group for the following phases of work. 02 _ TAG, as being the base (identity) of any writter. Presentation of examples that illustrate some phases of the evolution of the tag `writting'. `Creation' of tag and its project, that later will be painted on the wall during the last phase of this workshop. The participant will choose their unique 'nickname ', which will be drawn and redrawn, deconstructing it like the work of thewritter. The module is supported by viewing concrete projects of national and international writters. 03 _ Learning the STENCIL technique, this is the easiest street intervention technique to apprehend and appreciate and that also underpins the work of renowned artists, whose works will be presented during the first phase of this module. In a second phase, the participant will draw and cut their own stencils (molds), which subsequently will be used in the execution of the mural.
