  • Description: The extant text begins (in the second paragraph) f.1r: This is the first part of a work on hippology and the breeding of horses, divided into chapters of which the preface contains three. The fourth comprises the main chapter (ff.19v–122). This is the beginning of the Rajaz poem, which is annotated with a very elaborate commentary containing long passages from ancient poets. The poem’s author is ʿAbd Allāh b. Ḥamza b. Sulaymān (d. Muḥarram 613/1216 or 614/1217); the commentary is probably his as well. – A long paragraph therein is f.25ff.,اسماء خيل العرب المشهورة, in which many famous battles of the Arabs are mentioned. Then on f. 106ff.,the horses’ colours, on f.116ff., their markings, arranged according to body part.are discussed, and finally, markings on the belly. After f.121 there is a gap; f.122 treats the different sounds horses makein neighing. The second part is supposed to deal with the different body parts (باب الاعضاء).‎
