Tiger beetles are among those insects that display the most evident predatory adaptations. The large globular eyes reveal their diurnal activity, whereas the long, serrated mandibles suggest their attitude to attack very mobile and comparatively large preys. That's exactly what happens on beaches and bare-soil lands, where these beetles pounce fast on animals whose size is about equivalent to theirs, especially flies and other flying insects (made by L. Possenti).
