Teacup and saucer

At the end of the 18th century, extensive deposits of high-quality kaolin, one of the main components for porcelain, were discovered in the territory of the present-day Czech Republic. A series of porcelain mines and factories were established in the area, and these supplied the markets of the countries in the Austro-Hungarian Empire with their products.
The predecessor to the Epiag factory had been founded in Aich in 1849. The design for this teacup and saucer produced at this factory came from the 1910s, and our Art Deco-style example was made around 1922. The decoration comprised of elegant black lines emphasizes the extraordinarily thin-walled, simple forms of these objects, providing them with a thoroughly modern appearance.
