A booklet entitled ‘Christmas annual: souvenir for new Australians’ and consisting of 47 pages of black and white and some coloured photographs and one map with some text. Text is in English, Italian and German. Sent to those migrating from Europe and the United Kingdom in 1957, this Christmas Annual is packed with iconic images of Australia and Australianness: from the Sydney Harbour Bridge to Bondi lifesavers, cattle droving to cricket, and sheep shearing to kangaroos, kookaburras and koalas. How exciting this souvenir of a place as-yet-unvisited must have seemed to the people who received it!
