A simple scene from everyday life became for Gierymski a pretext to paint a study of a boy and the surrounding nature bathed in the strong light of a sunny day. Although still retaining some traditional elements of the Realism, the artist was clearly influenced by the style of Impressionism as demonstrated by the small, irregular dots of clear paint applied onto the canvas. The masterly play of the reflexes of sunlight on its rough surface makes this one of the most interesting works of art created in Poland at the end of the 19th century.
