A bust of a woman – Venus Victrix

The painting belongs to the collection of European art, collected by the Czartoryski family. Initially, it was considered to be depicting Beatrice, Dante's guide to Paradise, or to depict Vittoria Colonna, Michelangelo's spiritual friend. The recent findings of the Polish researcher, Anna Różycka-Bryzek, linked the work with the works of Michele di Jacopo Tosini. The model was probably a courtesan. In the ‘60s and ‘70s of the 16th century, Michele Tosini created images of female heads in a slightly agitated profile. The combination of the influences of elegant portraits of Giorgio Vasari and the art of Michelangelo is evident in them. The figure in the painting was defined as Venus the Victorious (Venus Victrix).
