10:45 A.M.—Rep. Carl Vinson of Georgia, chairman of Armed Services Committee, of which Stratton is a member, has asked him to stop by office, at left, to discuss defense authorization bill. "Committee and subcommittee meetings are held almost daily and that's where the real work of Congress is done. Chairman Vinson is one of two or three most powerful men in the House and because of his position probably knows a lot more about the national defense than any single individual over in the Pentagon."
